eCAT has a complete task manager system. You can access this by clicking Notifications in the main menu at the top of the page. This shows you the list of all your notifications in the system. There are two types of notifications in eCAT - Tasks and Messages. You can find out more about Messages by clicking here. This document describes tasks.

Tasks are like email messages with extra information. You can specify a list of users to send to, a subject, a numerical priority (from 1-100), a date due and a set of actions.

To display just your tasks, click on "View Tasks" under Inbox in the left hand menu. To display both notification types again click on "View All".

When you are viewing a list of tasks you can use the selection criteria at the top of the list to select a subset of the tasks - all, none, tasks you have read, tasks you have not read. You can then use the actions beneath the filters to mark selected tasks as read, or to delete the tasks.

You can also click on the task's name itself to actually view the task content.

To enter a list of users to send the task to, start typing the username of the target user in the To box. Valid usernames will appear in the drop down list for selection. It is also possible to use the name of a group in which case the task will be sent to every user in the group.

When you are creating a task you have the full power of eCAT in the text editor - so you can make links to files or to other records inside. Click here for more information on how to do that. Linking to records and files in tasks can be very useful to bring the exact information you want to the recipients attention.

After you have entered the task and subject, hit Submit to send the task. If you do not want to send the task then click Delete.

Whenever you have new notifications, a task or message, the notifications menu tab at the top is highlighted with the number of new notifications to read.
