File stores are used to provide files to eCAT users. Users can link to files in stores when they are editing records. If the file is an image file eCAT understands the file will be thumbnailed in the record.

Adding a new store

To add a new store click "Add" at the bottom of the list. You are presented with a blank form which can be filled in with the appropriate details.

Creating a new store

You need to supply a name for the store and choose its type.

If eCAT is running on a Linux or OSX server you need to choose the Linux/OSX option. The File Root is then the complete path from root.

If eCAT is running on a Windows system you can choose Windows or UNC. If you choose a Windows path then you need to specify the drive letter (C, D, E etc) and the path. The path is of the form some\\path\\here with all \ characters specified as \\. There is no starting \\ for a windows local path. If you choose a UNC path then you just enter the full UNC path to the share with all \ specified as \\. This means that the form of the path is \\\\servername\\sharename.

None of the paths are checked. If the paths are not typed correctly the file store will error when users attempt to view it.

When you have added the details click "Save" to save the changes.

Editing an existing store

To edit an existing store click the name of that user. You are presented with the store's details form which can be edited. You can also delete the store from here.

Setting store permissions

File stores have permissions that can be set by clicking on the "set permissions" link in the list of file stores. The following screen is displayed:

The link permission can then be assigned to both users and groups. When a store is created no-one has permission to link using it, so the permissions should be set for every new store that is created.
